Norddeutscher Rundfunk announces that the District Court of Bremerhaven has received a bankruptcy petition from the Lloyd Werft shipyard, famous for building one of the largest yachts of 2021 - the 140-meter innovative Explorer Solaris. About 300 of the company's employees and trainees are at risk of being fired, according to IG Metall.
German media: Lloyd Werft files for bankruptcy, but it has potential buyers.
The district court appointed the Hamburg lawyer Per Hendrik Heerma, who has a record of liquidation of the Elsflether shipyard, as the administrator in the Lloyd Werft insolvency case.
Lloyd Werft manages the superyacht and cruise ship division of the Genting Group, which is facing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Now she has stalled the project of the tourist vessel Global Dream worth 1.5 billion euros. Its construction is 75% complete at another, larger shipyard, MV Werften, which filed for bankruptcy at the same time as Lloyd.
Founded in 1857, Lloyd Werft has at least one unrealized project in the pipeline. In September 2021, at the Monaco Yacht Show, she presented the 115m APEX megaexplorer concept.
